Protecting Our Natural Beauty

I grew up in Tukwila, but chose to live in Issaquah as an adult because of its natural beauty.   I promise to make sure that Issaquah grows in a smart way so our grandchildren can enjoy the natural beauty we love today.

"Mark Mullet knows how to bring people together to craft policy and make a meaningful impact that makes a difference in people's lives. His negotiating skills on the Climate Commitment Act played a vital role that helped make that legislation possible. Mark has been a fabulous partner in helping our state continue to set the example for other states to take a leadership role on protecting future generations from the devastating impacts of climate change." - Former Senator Rueven Carlyle

Increasing Affordable Housing

Like many of you, my wife Kelley and I are nervous that our own children won't be able to afford to buy a house and live in Issaquah after they finish school.  I promise to seek all federal and state support available, and to create public/private partnerships, to help build more affordable housing in the central Issaquah area.   As the chair of our state construction budget in the Senate I was proud to write the budgets with the largest investments our state has ever seen in affordable housing.  I will use this expertise to help bring affordable housing to Issaquah.

Supporting Our Small Business Community

Issaquah is blessed with an amazing network of small business owners.   As the owner of the Ben & Jerry's in the Issaquah Highlands and the Sunset Beach Cafe at Lake Sammamish State Park, I'm proud to be a member of this small business community.   My goal as mayor will be to make Issaquah the best city in Washington State to start a new small business.

Investing in Transportation

During my time in the State Senate I was a champion for widening I-90 between Issaquah and Bellevue and over Snoqualmie Pass.   I also led the effort going back to the 2015 transportation budget to finally fix Highway 18.   As your mayor, I will be laser focused on utilizing my existing relationships with members of the legislature to keep our Highway 18 improvements on track.

Improving Transit

I was proud in my role in the Senate to partner with Issaquah Mayor Fred Butler to make sure Issaquah was part of the Sound Transit Three package in 2016.   We now need to work with Bellevue and Sound Transit to make sure light rail gets to Issaquah as soon as humanly possible.

Keeping Our Neighborhoods Safe

My priority as your State Senator was to be a public safety champion.  This is a priority I will carry with me into the Mayor's office.   I plan to follow through with the great work by Mayor Pauly to make sure our local stores are being vigilant against shoplifting.
